Newborn babies in special care.

Members make cot quilts for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at the Rosie Maternity Hospital, Cambridge, which has a throughput of 700 premature and sick babies from the East of England each year. Parents are given the choice of a quilt to mark their special event and many have expressed thanks in a book kept at the Unit. Also, several of our quilts have been donated to a hospital in Ruanda.

Cambridge Quilters can supply most of the materials required, and we make the quilts either at home or at occasional group sewing sessions.

Breast cancer patients

Heart-shaped cushions help post-mastectomy patients to maintain a comfortable posture and take pressure off the site of surgery. Members make these cushions for the Breast Unit at Addenbrookes Hospital.

We have also made cotton shoulder bags for patients to carry drainage bags in the few days after they return home.

We have sent quilts for temporary display to brighten up the Breast Unit, and Day Group members have made a set of wall-hangings for the corridor.

For more information about breast cushions and drainage bags click here, or ask Liz Ingle.

Charities

From time to time we have raised funds by raffles and made donations to charity.

In recent years we have made donations to these organisations
